The Temple of the Holy Spirit

The church is the temple of the Holy Spirit. How does this teaching relate to us? At the Day of Pentecost, the church was birthed forth. The church is indwelt by the Spirit both individually and collectively. The Holy Spirit imparted His life to the church.

Now through the indwelling of the Spirit, firstly, the nature of the Spirit would be found in the church such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness self-control. So we could cultivate the “fruit of the Spirit “by allowing Him to work in us. Secondly, Holy Spirit is the One that conveys power to the church and us to be witnesses for Jesus Christ. Lastly, when the Holy Spirit dwells in the church, He would help us to be sensitive to the leading of the Lord.

Hi Mun Chung, my question:
Is there a difference between the temple of God and the temple of the Holy Spirit? Is the church called the temple of God or the temple of the Holy Spirit? Please clarify. Thank you.

First of all, I am wondering what is the basis of your claim that the Church ("which church? Universal or Locale?) is the temple of the Holy Spirit? Does this temple relate to the Temple of the Old Testament? Does this temple function similarly with the Chinese Taoist Temple? When you say temple of the Holy Spirit, what do you actually mean? Do you mean Holy Spirit will dwell in the Church? In what sense?

Secondly, in the book of John, Jesus when he met with the disciples, He tell the disciples to receive the Holy Spirit(John 20:22)after He breath on them. How does this relate to the Day of Pentecost?

That's bout it for today!

Hi there!

I like your blog - neat, presentable, serious and precise.

I refer to 2 Cor. 6:16 which says that "We are the temple of the living God." the context is holiness - do not be yoked with wickedness.

Question (2 parts):

1. What does it mean to be a temple of the Holy Spirit?

2. What are the implications in our personal walk with God and with the world?
